But, not too long ago, I would have told you having what I wanted was totally impossible.

15 years ago, I took my first leap of faith. I was on track to take over my Mom’s successful therapy business. It would have been easy. But as a free-spirit, world traveler across five continents, extreme skier and mountain biker…it’s no surprise I decided to go my own way. I loved the adventurous idea of being an entrepreneur, making my own hours and calling all the shots. hanging out with clients I loved.


And I’d already transformed my own body from a size 14 to a 4. I knew that as a holistic practitioner and health mentor, I could help other women heal their relationships with food and their bodies. And as I got my first clients, that’s exactly what I did…

I didn't realize it at first, but I was headed right over a cliff... not because I wasn't GREAT at what I did, but because money was actually a HUGE internal issue for me.

I was actually afraid to make money. I was afraid to charge what I was worth or to raise my rates. Afraid to ask for the sale. I was so anxious around money that I’d rather give my services away or trade than receive any. I’d have conversation after conversation with prospective clients, and come away empty-handed or having made a REALLY bad deal for myself – just so I could feel OK about not charging them too much.


Whenever I did have some money, I would either hoard it – afraid it would disappear -- or spend it (either way it seemed out of my control!)


And I never tracked my money. I just didn’t want to pay attention to it. So I didn’t really know where it went (sound familiar?) – not great for someone in business!


I always felt really bad and guilty whenever I would spend money at Whole Foods or when shopping for anything of quality. I tried hard to live well within my means most of the time, and my parents would praise me for being a good saver and not a big spender. So I thought I was being “good” and responsible with money.

But my relationship to money was, literally, "Feast or Famine!"

I would go on regular “spending fasts” much like I had operated around my diet and cleansing before I mastered my body and relationship with food. Back then I remember feeling bad and guilty if I over ate. I would then put myself on an extreme Master Cleanse fast to “fix it”. It was totally out of balance -- and I was exactly that way with money too!


I lived in constant terror that the money would run out, and that I would have to go back and get a “real job” with my tail between my legs. Maybe I’d have to get my social work license and even go to work for my Mom. Yikes!! That fear alone would whip me back into shape to go and make money… and then I would work super-hard and make some, just enough.


But then I was in a constant panic that I would lose it. No matter how hard I worked, it never seemed like enough. I never felt safe.


Up, down, up down – always in living reaction and fear, never in balance and peace.

Can you relate to the "feast-or-famine" roller coaster?

In 2009, after my son was born, I knew I needed to go to the next level in my business, to become the soulful and successful woman entrepreneur I dreamed of being …and I knew I could not do it alone. I needed a coach and a mentor to personally guide me and show me the way. But here my “money story” was still getting in my way. High end coaching was a huge investment, and I was deathly afraid of going into debt. I asked my Dad for money and he flat out said no. Because of my excellent credit and being debt-free, the credit card companies were more than excited to “sponsor” me. I took a leap of faith and trusted that I would use the credit cards as a tool to build my business, rather than a crutch. But then, all of my SHIZ came up when I started rolling out the “high end” $7k programs my coach encouraged me to sell.

All my fears about asking for money came roaring out!

I did attract wonderful clients but not enough to make ends meet…plus I couldn’t charge them enough because I felt so unworthy and insecure. So I did a lot of work around this and I transformed myself from the inside – where my f’ed up money story was.

That transformation was the key.

After that light went on, I remember looking in the mirror and saying: “this is a battle, and I am going to win.” And I believed myself!

Within days of getting out of my own way and letting go I started selling my high end programs like hotcakes! From having $200…I brought in $54,000 in 6 weeks.
